How to Deal with Moisture in Electrical Power Cables
Ⅰ.Reasons and hazards of power cables getting wet and entering water
1. When the new cable leaves the factory, both ends are sealed with plastic sealing sleeves, but after a period of use according to the actual situation on the construction site, the remaining part is simply wrapped with plastic cloth. If the placement and sealing are not good, over time, water vapor will inevitably seep into the cable.
2. When laying power cables, it is necessary to frequently cross roads, bridges and culverts. Water often accumulates in cable trenches due to weather or other reasons. During the laying process, the cable head will inevitably be immersed in water. .
3. After the power cable is laid, due to the limitation of on-site construction conditions, the cable head cannot be made in time, so that the unsealed cable is broken and exposed to the air for a long time, or even immersed in water, so that a large amount of water vapor enters the cable.
4. In the process of making the cable end, due to human negligence, moisture may penetrate into the processing process of the cable end.
5. During the normal operation of the cable, if a breakdown occurs for some reason, the accumulated water in the cable trench will enter the cable along the fault point, seriously damage the cable insulation, which will also cause the cable to enter the water.
Ⅱ.What should I do if the power cable gets wet?
1. After the cable is laid, make the cable head in time, complete the wiring, and eliminate the hidden danger in the bud.
2. If only two ends of the cable enter the water, just cut off the two ends and reconnect the cable ends.
3. If the cable has an obvious water inlet point, it is necessary to cut the cable near the water inlet point to make an intermediate joint.
4. Water accumulation in outdoor cable wells or cable channels is inevitable. Use the brackets to secure the cables as much as possible.
5. Use special hot nitrogen to pressurize and dry the cables inside. Such specialized equipment is generally not available.
6. Regularly conduct pressure and leakage tests on the cables to ensure timely understanding of the running status of the cables.
The best solution to avoid water in power cables is prevention. Once the cable is seriously damped, it is basically scrapped, so we can choose high-quality cables to reduce the risk of early damping. In addition to the selection of high-quality cables, daily inspection and maintenance are also important. After all, all hidden dangers have been eliminated, and the power cable can be used normally without causing more serious accidents. Only in this way can the safety of the distribution network be guaranteed. run smoothly.
