What methods of cable artificial cooling?

Cables generally work under natural cooling conditions, that is, to maintain thermal stability through natural cooling. Sometimes, the cooling is not enough and further cooling is required to increase the transfer capacity. The artificial accelerated cooling of the cable is called artificial cable cooling (or forced cooling). There are many artificial methods

Cool down:

According to the part of the cooling area relative to the cable, it can be divided into two categories: internal cooling and external cooling. According to the different cooling medium, it can be divided into oil cooling, water cooling, air cooling, cold water, and another cooling medium such as freon evaporative cooling.

For example, after the center of the oil-filled cable is filled with oil, it is not only adding oil and insulating oil, but also circulating cooling under the action of the pump to take away part of the cable conductor. This method is called internal oil cooling. If the cable cooling water pipes are parallel, or in the cable tunnel in cold air, it is external cooling.

Using the center has a good cooling effect on the cooling oil channel, because the cooling medium is cooled directly on the conductor with the highest temperature. However, the structure of inlet and outlet of high potential conductor and cooling medium is more complicated. The center often does not allow the diameter of the oil pipe and the pressure drop of the cooling pipe to limit the length of the cable. General short high-voltage cable systems with central oil passages are used for cooling.

Less restrictions on the outer diameter of the cold pipe and simple cable joints, suitable for long cable systems. During external cooling, the heat passing through the cable along with the thermal resistance of each part also passes through the thermal resistance between the cable and the cooling pipe, so the cooling efficiency is not as cold.
